Senior Staff Accountant
Job Summary:
The Senior Staff Accountant will prepare financial reports to track the organization's assets, revenue, expenses, liabilities, and other related financial activities. They will track grant activity, compile grant reports and submit specialized billing through the Pennsylvania government systems for social services invoices.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline required.
- Three to five years of accounting experience is required.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Performs general labor cost accounting and other related duties in the accounting department.
- Prepares periodic (monthly) invoices to the state for services provided.
- Maintains the general ledger.
- Codes invoices, sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly books.
- Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.
- Maintain the Asset sub-ledger, including construction-in-progress assets and depreciation.
- Reconciles customer accounts and manages accounts receivable collections.
- Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
- Files required grant forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.
- Act as backup to the payroll admin to run payroll if needed.
- As appropriate, coordinates with software vendors to maintain accounting software systems; recommends updates to enhance the accounting software.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Extensive knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
- Understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
- Highly proficient with accounting software.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
